Food Safety Department
The Food Safety Department plays a vital role in the above mandate by ensuring that NAFCO warehouses meet Good Warehouse Practices (GWPs) and Good Storage Practices (GSPs) for those with grains. Secondly, it is to ensure the warehouses are food safety compliant in the following areas: Environment, Structure and Fabric, Equipment, Storage Practices, Cleaning and Sanitation, Personnel, Pest Control Management, Record keeping and Documentation.
The Department embeds food safety into all operational processes while aligning with national regulations and international best practices with NAFCO’s commitment to ensuring the safety and quality of grains throughout its supply chain – from procurement to distribution. This involves a structured approach to mitigating food safety risks, complying with national and international food safety regulations, strengthening internal capacity, and improving operational efficiency.
The department is made up of Food safety officers, quality control officers, Ecowas managers and officers.
