Members of Parliament have commended the current management of the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) for resilience and steadfastness in ensuring the country’s food security agenda stays on course.

The MPs made the commendations in separate encounters with the management of NAFCO to discuss the operational challenges of the company.

Led by the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Hanan Abdul-Wahab, the NAFCO management first appeared before the Parliamentary Select Committee on Food, Agriculture and Cocoa Affairs at Parliament House in Accra to brief them on its activities.

The committee was chaired by the NPP MP for Abirem, Hon. John Osei Frimpong and has the NDC MP for Asunafo South, Hon. Eric Opoku as Ranking Member.

Both men stressed the strategic importance of NAFCO and pledged the commitment of the committee to assist the company to overcome its challenges.

The lawmakers proposed the development of a strategic plan to guide the operations of the company.

Two days after the Accra meeting, the management of the company was invited to Koforidua in the Eastern Region to appear before another parliamentary committee, this time the Parliamentary Select Committee on Employment, Labour and State Enterprises.

The Committee is chaired by the NPP MP for Kumawu, Hon. Philip Basoah and has the NDC MP for Pru East, Dr. Kwabena Donkor as Ranking Member.

While commending Buffer Stock for its operations over the last 11 years, the MPs recommended that the company prioritizes farmers in their corporate social interventions.

The committee asked the management to pay attention to strategic food stocks in order to safeguard the country against any eventualities.
